The former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, who is being considered as a potential successor to Louis Van Gaal at Manchester United has set his sights on Arsenal star Mesut Ozil, according to the Express via TuttoMercatoweb.
The former Real Madrid coach was sacked this season by the London club after a run of performance which saw the Blues missing out on both the Champions League and the Europa League.
And he has been widely reported to be the man to replace Van Gaal this summer. In the light of this, the Portuguese is keen to bring his former player Ozil – whom he described as “unique” – to the Old Trafford once he got the job.
The pair worked together at Real Madrid between 2010 and 2013 winning the La Liga and the Copa Del Rey.
The German is get to yet to make a decision on his future with different reports linking him away from the Emirates Stadium, despite insisting on being happy at the club.
He has two years left on his current contract and Arsene Wenger is confident he would commit his future to the club alongside another play-maker of the club, Alexis Sanchez.
“These two players have two years to go on their contracts at the end of the season,” he said. So that is why we are not in a hurry. The players are very keen to stay and we are talking.”
The 27-year-old has reportedly grown frustrated at the club. It remains to see if Wenger would be a left to convince Oil to extend his stay at the club with Mourinho on his trail.
The Frenchman is obviously not ready to lose his star player to a Premier League rival as he looks to strengthen his team to take another shot at Premier League title next season.
Ozil joined Arsenal for £42.5 million in 2013 making him the club record signing. He has won the FA Cup twice and has provided 18 assists, the highest in the league this season.
Has the team gone another season without not lifting any trophy despite Ozil influence in the squad, a lot of concerns will be raised among the gunner’s fans relating to Ozil departing from the Emirate this summer. Although, the German has yet to agree to a new contract with arsenal; his deal with Arsenal will still be on till 2018.
Following the report from Marca reporter, Luis F. Rojo earlier this year, it reviews that Spainish giant (Barcelona) were considering a move for Ozil who is now likely to be linked to Manchester United.
