It is the one thing that has been hanging around Arsenal like a black mark. That of course, refers to the situation of Aaron Ramsey and his contract.
The Welshman is in the final year of his contract and he had quite a few interesting things to say about the negotiations that have taken place. According to the Guardian, he said:
“Everything has been going great with the club – we thought we were in a position where we had agreed a deal but that’s no longer the case,” Ramsey said.
“So I just have to carry on playing my football and do my best for Arsenal this season and I’ll leave the rest with the club.”
Reading this, it is clear that Ramsey is not saying that he is definitely leaving the club as he seems to have left the door open for a solution to be found.
If that were to happen, it would be a great bit of business for everyone associated with the club. He has been a member of the Gunners for 10 seasons and he has shown time and again how important a player he is.
The £110,000-a-week star was one of the key factors in Arsenal ending their trophy drought and he deserves to have been treated better by the club. Of course, we do not know why the board decided to do what they did.
Things are going very smoothly with the Gunners now, who happen to be on a nine-match winning streak. The primary objective this season will be to get back into the Champions League.
For that to happen, the club is going to need the support of all members of the squad. If a contract situation like this is going to happen, it may create a ripple effect among the players. So, it is best for the club to resolve this as quickly as possible. A player like Ramsey needs to be in the right frame of mind to perform to the best of his abilities.
