Arsene Wenger: Alexis Sanchez to PSG just media imagination

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has dismissed suggestions that Alexis Sanchez is close to joining Paris Saint-Germain in this summer’s transfer window.

Sanchez, 28, has been continuously linked with a proposed move from the Emirates despite Wenger insisting that a decision has been made to not sell the forward.

A recent report from The Sun suggested that Sanchez was at plush five star Royal Monceau Raffles in Paris where Les Parisiens’ sporting director Antero Henrique was spotted.

This led to claims that the former French champions could test the Gunners’ resolve with a £70m bid with Sanchez having less than a year left on his Emirates contract.

Following the Gunners’ 3-0 friendly defeat to Chelsea, Wenger was posed a similar question from the reporters, and he insisted that the transfer link is ‘media imagination’.

“Only media imagination.” he said via the club’s official website. Meanwhile, being asked whether Paris Saint-Germain hold the advantage as a foreign club, he replied: ‘No’.

Sanchez bagged 24 goals and 10 assists in the English top-flight last term, but despite his efforts, the Gunners fell short of their quest for Champions League football.

Earlier this month, the Chilean was interpreted as saying that he wants to play and win the Champions League in the future, but Wenger insisted that the translation was twisted, and he would rather place more importance in the Premier League.

Arsenal lost to Chelsea by a 3-0 scoreline in their final pre-season game of their China tour, but Wenger will hope to have his full squad at his disposal ahead of the Community Shield meeting in early August.
