Weekend Review: Arsenal on the rise again as rivals drop points

This Monday is a delightful one especially for Arsenal fans as 3 title rivals dropped points while the Gunners won with a four goal difference.

With Man City losing to Everton at Goodingson Park 4-0, Liverpool and Manchester United sharing a point with a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford.

The North London club move up the table to fourth thereby putting some distance between themselves and the chasing park. This is definitely a welcome development as the sprint stage of the season kicks into effect.

Arsene Wenger’s words further confirmed this sentiment when he expressed his concerns as regards to this season. According to Goal.com, this is what he had to say:

“It is the first time 20 years that at this stage of the season, six teams are at the top”

He further adds:

” You look around you and nobody is dropping off, so it is down to being consistent, keeping your nerves, focusing on your game”

“Now we go into europe, into the cups, big games- who can maintain it? Honestly, nobody can tell”

I personally hope this is a clarion call he hammers to the boys on a regular basis as I firmly believe that this team is uniquely equipped to achieve great success this season.

On a side note, I am experiencing an indifferent feeling over Pep Guardiola’s fortunes in England. He is no doubt a top class manager, but I have said over the years that if he were to come into English football to manage a side, it won’t be smooth sailing as he is rather accustomed to from his stints in other leagues i.e, Bundesliga and La liga.

When a side like Everton who haven’t been in the Champions league as far back as I can remember, beat you like they did Man City yesterday, the strength of the English Premier league overwhelms you.

Still awaiting updates on the scan of Olivier Giroud’s ankle injury which has got most Arsenal fans biting their nails. I am optimistic about it though and presume a 2 week absence of the prolific striker.

Nevertheless, his loss will be cushioned by the plethora of options available. With the return of Welbeck, Alexis Sanchez’s hunger and availability of Lucas Perez,  I must conclude all is well.
