Unai Emery confirms fresh fitness blow to key Arsenal star after Fulham win

Mesut Ozil

There was a lot to talk about in the aftermath of the win that the Gunners had over the weekend. So much of it had a positive feel to it but there were some niggles here and there that will worry the fans.

One among them would be the absence of the talisman Mesut Ozil who was not part of the matchday squad.

After the match, manager Unai Emery had an update regarding the star player’s fitness situation.

Talking to the club’s official website, this is what the Spaniard had to say:

“Yesterday he came in with pain and he cannot train yesterday or play today.”

If you have been following the Gunners over the last season or so, this would not be a new occurrence. It is known that Ozil is suffering from a back issue and that is preventing him from participating in certain matches.

The German had a very difficult summer with his national team so it was nice to see him get off to a good start with Arsenal. Though he has not always played in his favored position in the middle of the park, he has managed to have a telling impact.

It is important for the sake of the team that he is able to perform on a regular basis. The good news is that the international break has come at the right time for the club.

Since Ozil is not a part of the German national team anymore, this period will give him an extended break and he will have some time at least, to recover.

The Gunners are on an excellent run of form having won nine matches in a row and they will look to keep that run going as long as possible. For something like that to happen, it is essential that all the players are fit and can be called upon when needed. Ozil is one of the most important members of the team so it is imperative for him to be fit.
