Trimming the squad: Five players that might leave Arsenal this summer, including some fan favourites

Arsenal are set to have a summer that will definitely determine the future of the club and with the transfer market already open across Europe, the Gunners are in a make or break position.

Quantity-wise, the Gunners have enough players already, but in terms of quality, there are some positions that require attention and it is expected that Arsene Wenger, who recently signed a new contract, will look to bring in top quality players and indeed, complete the team in terms of quality.

As stated already, the North London club have so many players already and it is only logical that with new recruits coming in, some players will be shown the exit door. Arsene Wenger himself recently said that he will have to trim his squad and we are going to look at some of the players that may be sacrificed in the transfer market to make room for new arrivals.

  1. OLIVIER GIROUD

Despite scoring 98 goals for Arsenal within the space of 5 seasons, the French international remains a maligned player among some sections of the fans. Recently when the club congratulated him on his very first hat-trick for Le’blues on Facebook, some fans continued to call out for him to be sold. With this renewed hostility and lack of game-time last term, Giroud may leave the Emirates this summer.

  1. JACK WILSHERE

Mr.Arsenal himself may be on the verge of leaving the club in an uncelebrated manner. The England international who is a fan’s favourite at Arsenal has had a frustrating career riddled with injuries which have kept him out of the first team. Though he had a hugely successful loan spell at Bournemouth last season, his place at the North London club is scarcely guaranteed with the options we have and the rumours of transfer targets like Arda Turan flying around. This will break the heart of many Arsenal fans, but we may have to say goodbye to Jack boy.

  1. LUCAS PEREZ

With the rumours making rounds, this player is almost out already. It is apparent that the player will seek to leave having had limited game-time despite impressing on a number of occasions. As much as we may love to see more of the pacy Spaniard, it may be in the best interest of the club and the player to part ways.

  1. ALEX OXLADE-CHAMBERLAIN

Since his arrival from Southampton, the Ox has remained a promising player for Arsenal. Though it’s been recently reported that he will sign a new contract, Chamberlain may be on his way out of the Emirates as he continues to draw attraction from a host of rivals. His future at the club will definitely depend on the ability of Wenger to assure him of a major role as well as prepare a good package to keep his eyes off some enticement from Merseyside.

  1. KIERAN GIBBS

The exit of the England international seems to have been confirmed already. It appears to be a matter of time before we can say goodbye to the long-serving left-back. Gibbs has had his role diminished over the last two years due to a series of injury and the impressive form of Nacho Monreal. With the imminent arrival of Saed Kolasinic, Arsenal will hope to cash in on Gibbs who has only a year left on his current contract at the Emirates.
