Team News: Arsenal receive huge injury boost with six players returning to full training

Unai Emery

Arsenal have received a timely injury boost for the upcoming Premier League clash against West Ham United with six players returning to full training in Wednesday’s training session.

The north London giants had experienced a difficult month of December where they were depleted in the defensive department with multiple injury concerns.

However Emery has received a positive outlook to the team for the forthcoming London derby.

In a report covered by Arsenal.com, it has been confirmed that six players in Hector Bellerin, Shkodran Mustafi, Nacho Monreal, Laurent Koscielny, Konstantinos Mavropanos and Mesut Ozil have returned to full training, with the majority of them likely to feature in Saturday’s early kick-off at the London Stadium.

However, there remain long-term absentees in the form of Danny Welbeck (broken ankle) and Rob Holding (knee) while Henrikh Mkhitaryan should be sidelined for the remainder of the month with an injury to his right foot.

Arsenal’s extended unbeaten run came to an end during the festive schedule where they were numerous injury concerns and the latest update should provide genuine relief to the fans for the backend of the season where the race for the top four is very much alive.

Still, the club may need to strengthen the central defence with another top-class recruit with their struggles to keep regular shut outs this term and it remains to be seen whether the board will act on the same before the end of the month.

An attacker has also been deemed a priority with the season-ending injury to Danny Welbeck and of late, the club have been linked with Barcelona’s Denis Suarez and Dalian Yifang’s Yannick Carrasco.
