Sky Sports: Arsenal are already in talks to agree Steven N’Zonzi transfer

Steven N'Zonzi

It is no secret that Arsenal are in the market trying to bring in players even after they have brought in three so far.

And now that they have managed to bring in players for the defense, the focus is now on the midfield. Apart from Lucas Torreira, the other midfielder that the Gunners are targeting is Steven N’Zonzi of Sevilla, according to reports in Sky Sports.

The Frenchman spent a season under the current Arsenal boss Unai Emery and it is said that he is keen to reunite with him. The only factor that is preventing a deal from happening is the fee that the Gunners are willing to pay.

There is a difference between what Sevilla want and what Arsenal are offering at the moment. The fact that N’Zonzi wants to join the club indicates that the fee can be negotiated to something a little less than what the Spanish club are after. The midfielder has a release clause of £35m.

With the departures of Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla, the Gunners are a light in the midfield area and it is clear that Emery and Head Of Recruitment Sven Mislintat, want to rectify this situation. Given what used to happen during the Arsene Wenger era, it is a nice change of pace to see Arsenal target players who are slightly older than usual.

N’Zonzi is part of the French team that has reached the semi finals of the World Cup. He has been able to help solidify the team whenever he has come off the bench. So, if a deal is to be completed, it will be done after the World Cup.

The main objective for Arsenal is to get back into the Champions League and for that, they require quality players in every position.

With the signings that they have made so far, they are moving in the right direction and getting the Frenchman will further help in that endeavor. Perhaps the fact that Emery has already worked with N’Zonzi will work in Arsenal’s favor and help bring him to the Emirates.
