Serie A giants considering move for Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi

Serie A holders Juventus are reportedly keen on pursuing the signature of Shkodran Mustafi from Arsenal, a report from Corriere dello Sport via Sport Witness claims.

The Germany international was recruited by the Gunners from Valencia in the summer of 2016 for £35m but he has since failed to live up to his expectations with inconsistent performances at the back.

Mustafi had been linked with a potential move to Inter Milan last summer which never materialised but reports now suggest that he could be offered a return to the Serie A with the Bianconeri.

As per Corriere dello Sport, Mustafi has been earmarked as an alternative to Bayern Munich’s Jerome Boateng to bolster Juventus’ backline this summer. It is added that the Gunners could accept a significant loss on the German with a sum of around £17.7m likely to urge them to do business.

Mustafi’s future at the Emirates has come under question on a regular basis over the past year and the recent contract extension to Calum Chambers may suggest that the Englishman could emerge as the first-choice centre-back alongside summer signing Sokratis.

Meanwhile, Evening Standard has suggested that head of recruitment Sven Mislintat has his doubts over the qualities of Mustafi and the pre-season may presumably define whether he fits the scheme of things under Emery.

Arsenal were linked with a move for Freiburg’s Caglar Soyuncu earlier in the transfer window but talks over a potential deal appear to have stalled with no update from the player’s representative of late.
