Newcastle United are weighing are a potential double swoop for Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere and Lucas Perez.
The pair are no longer regulars in Arsene Wenger’s side with the former due to participate for the Under 23s in order to prove his fitness.
According to The Mirror, the Magpies are lining up bids for the Gunners duo with manager Rafael Benitez frustrated with the limited transfer activity on their top-flight return.
Arsene Wenger recently confirmed that he will look to trim his first-team squad which stands at around 32 but the club are still reluctant to sell below their asking price.
Wilshere, who has entered the final year of his contract, is said to be valued at £20m, and the Gunners could be prepared to stick with the midfielder, should his asking price not be met.
Meanwhile, it is a similar situation with Lucas Perez, who cost the Gunners £17.1m from Deportivo La Coruna in the summer of 2016.
The Spaniard has attracted plenty of transfer interest this summer, but the club want to recoup the entire sum paid for his services.
Comparing both players, Perez still has three years left on his current contract, and Wenger could be more inclined to loan out the Spaniard for the campaign if there is no breakthrough in terms of transfer fees.
Wilshere has not quite lived to his early career hype with a series of injuries over the years not only affecting his Gunners place but also a spot with the England national side.
The Englishman will be free to speak with clubs in January, but he is determined to make a final attempt to break into the Gunners lineup which has seen the likes of Aaron Ramsey and Granit Xhaka cement their positions over the past year.
