Arsenal are gearing up for their clash against Nottingham Forest in the third round of the FA Cup today evening.

New signing Konstantinos Mavropanos joined the Arsenal squad in training for the first time on Friday ahead of their weekend fixture.

The Greek defender officially completed his move to North London club on Thursday and although no transfer fee was quoted by the club, Sky Sports have claimed that it is around £1.8m.

It’s likely that the youngster will not play any part for the Gunners this season, as Arsene Wenger confirmed that he will be sent on loan to gain further experience.

Wenger told Arsenal’s official website:

“He is with us and the plan is that he goes out on loan somewhere,” the manager said. “It could be a German club.”

“I prefer him to play. Where? It doesn’t really matter. It’s just that he plays in the top level and gains experience. He is 20 years old and he needs experience for a central defender.

“He is not ready to start for us so it is important he gets experience”

The Gunners pulled off a draw against Chelsea few days ago thanks to Bellerin’s late equaliser. However, they have been struggling to get going this season and are currently placed sixth, 5 points behind 4th placed Liverpool.
