Official: Club make announcement that striker has signed for Arsenal

Unai Emery

Though this transfer has not yet been announced by the Gunners, the parent club of Sam Greenwood, Sunderland, have done their part.

Arsenal have managed to sign the highly rated youngster despite competition from teams such as Liverpool and Manchester United. This continues the transfer business that the London club have been conducting with a lot of efficiency.

Regarding the move of Greenwood, this is what Sunderland had to say:

‘Sunderland AFC can officially confirm that Academy player Sam Greenwood has joined Arsenal FC.

Sam declined the offer of scholarship terms with the club and made it clear that he saw his future elsewhere.

He expressed his desire to join Arsenal and we therefore moved quickly to bring the matter to conclusion, believing a swift resolution to be in the best interest of both Sam and the club. Terms were agreed with Arsenal and everyone at Sunderland AFC wishes Sam the very best of luck for the future as he embarks on the next stage of his football career.’

While the transfer of Greenwood is meant for the youth teams at the moment, it is difficult not to be excited by the deal. The Gunners do have the habit of giving such youngsters a chance and this may allow him to play a couple of matches here and there.

The powers that be at Arsenal identified Greenwood as someone who can improve the youth teams and have moved swiftly to bring him to North London. The youngster himself gave an indication of the move when he had posted a photo of him signing a contract on his Instagram profile.

This is what he had to say about the move:

‘Today is the start of a new chapter in my life signing for @arsenal and I can’t wait to get started, I’m looking forward to the challenges ahead’

The future does sound bright at Arsenal with the moves that the club has been making in this transfer window. When you add an exciting talent such as Greenwood to that mix, fans are bound to become happier.
