Manchester City 2-2 Arsenal: Wenger’s men close in on Champions League again

Two quality goals gave Arsenal a point against Manchester City at Etihad stadium. It was vintage Arsenal result meaning that we are unbeaten against current top four and it is one of the best records but it doesn’t matter unless you have something in trophy cabinet.

Arsenal went into the game without Mesut Ozil, who missed through side strain. Yesterday we lacked our usual ball possession.

The finishing touch wasn’t quite there however the moves that preceded those rushed finishes were good to see.

The match lacked its exciting substance as both teams defence was poor from the start. Arsenal, simply were not better to take advantage of City’s weaknesses at the back. Petr Cech had a horrible afternoon as he was beaten several times near the post.

As for the back four, less said is better. It was bad defending that allowed first goal but for the second it looked horrible as De bruyne ran thirty yards with back four in reverse gear allowing him to shoot.

After city’s opener Giroud fired header past Hart to end his goal draught. Then the moment of class came with Arsenal’s second.

Alexis, having run unchallenged from the halfway line, played a one-two with Giroud and found the bottom corner from twenty-five yards.

Apart from Welbeck’s unfortunate twist, there was some good news with introduction of Wilshere. He moved well and was productive during most part of his play.

Overall, Wenger was pleased with the performance in a way it was certainly better than recent weeks. The defence was poor once again and that is the area where we need to address.

There were a lot of positives on show, but they simply cannot cover up the cracks that have become so evident especially in area of defence. Changes need to be made and they need to be made soon.
