Why Arsenal need to keep hold of Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain

The summer is upon us and the two most important things Arsenal have on their to-do list are big name signings and contract renewals. When it comes contract extensions Ozil and Sanchez obviously top the Gunners wishlist, but there are other players whose futures will need to be sorted out with the prominent name among them being Oxlade-Chamberlain.

The Englishman has just one year left on his current contract and there seems to be no progress on the negotiations front. This is certainly a concern for the fans as the 23-year-old has been in scintillating form since his return to the starting 11, especially in the new 3-4-3 formation that provided him with a platform to show his versatility and commitment.

Having been deployed in various positions throughout the 2016/17 campaign, the England International has proved time and again his importance to the team and the club as a whole.

From his deployment in the central midfield during the mid-season crisis to flying the right Wing, then as a right wingback in the new formation and finally playing left wingback in the FA Cup final win against Chelsea.

Despite several odds stacked against him in terms of preferred options or positional instability, Oxlade has produced moments of magic along the way such as the assist for Monreal’s equalizer against Man City in the semi-finals of the FA Cup.

Equipped with a powerful burst of pace and technical ability on the ball, his talent is certainly one to keep hold of and nurture further. A very confident footballer with a strong right foot to match, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will be an asset to any side he plays for.

According to reports in Express back in December, Chamberlain’s was seemingly frustrated with the North London club’s management and himself as regards to the lack of adequate game time and contract negotiations.

The latest reports in Sky Sports indicate that the Englishman is likely to leave the Emirates club with Liverpool lurking in the background. It seems Arsenal are confident that the midfielder will sign the contract but sources close to the player claim that the negotiations have been stalled and nothing is planned for the near future.

The latest claims will come as a shocker for the Gunners management and unless the club move quickly to seal the deal, it is looking more and more likely that Chambo will be heading for the exit.

The Gunners management have made some mistakes over the past few years in terms of transfer and contractual decisions and hopefully they don’t repeat the same with Oxlade-Chamberlain.
