Ian Wright: Wenger might leave if Arsenal fail to win the Premier League

Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has admitted that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger might call it quits this summer if the Gunners fail to lift the Premier League title this season, as per the Guardian.

The North London club have been in a slump since the start of February and have been knocked out of the FA Cup and Champions League in the past few days.

The calls for Wenger’s sacking have been at an all time high and Wright feels the majority of the fans have lost patience with the Frenchman. Speaking to BT Sport, he said:

I’m not sure if he(Wenger) still will be there after the summer – if they don’t win the league.

If they finish third or fourth again, I don’t know what will happen. Especially with how it is with Leicester and Tottenham above them and with Arsenal out of the Champions League and the FA Cup.

The natives have turned now; more people want him out than want him in.

When specifically questioned by pundit Gary Lineker on his opinion whether Wenger should leave, Wright claimed that something’s got to happen in the summer. He claimed:

All I will say is change is coming, something’s got to happen.

(Stan) Kroenke is the one they should be putting more emphasis. Not just the boss.

I have got to agree that the number of people calling for Wenger’s head has increased by leaps and bounds over the past few months. The emotions are at an all-time high among the fans and for the first time in his Arsenal career, the majority of the fans are demanding his sacking.

There are still people like myself who still believe in Wenger and his ways, but it’s a discussion for another day and we will limit this article to just how the Premier League will affect the Frenchman’s future. As we all know, there’s no chance of someone asking Wenger to leave but it is up to him to decide his future along with Arsenal’s.

It has been a frustrating season for Wenger, as this was supposed to be the season where the Gunners can finally end their League drought thanks to the struggles of Manchester clubs. However, the team have once again choked at a crucial juncture of the season with big players struggling to turn up.

The title is not out of reach but what’s the chance of Arsenal players finding their form for the last 9 games of the season? very minimal. But there still a chance and if there is someone who can pull this off then it’s got to be Wenger and his players.

If they can put on a run the supporters will definitely back the team and Wenger. Then the pressure will build on the leaders which might trigger a panic, but again it’s a big if. If we don’t do that and finish below Tottenham, then I think Wenger will call it quits(hoping not).
