Huge boost for Arsenal as star duo agree new deals with the club

Arsenal star duo of Olivier Giroud and Francis Coquelin have reportedly agreed new deals with the club, as per reports in RMC Sport.

Giroud has been with the North London club since 2012 but his future has been in doubt over the past few months.

As for Coquelin, the youngster joined the Gunners back in 2008, but has only recently established himself in the first team and is now a crucial part of Wenger’s squad.

The report from RMC Sport states that Giroud will extend his deal for a further 12 months, with his current one expiring in 2018. It further states that in-form midfielder Coquelin who has two-and-a-half years remaining on his contract will also sign a 2-year extension which will keep the French midfielder at the Emirates until 2021.

The news will be a major boost to Arsenal and manager Arsene Wenger, but supporters will be keen to see their more crucial stars like Ozil and Sanchez pen new deals.

Giroud has recently found himself relegated to the bench as Alexis Sánchez has become the Gunners number one striker, and while he has been linked with a move away from Arsenal, evidently he wants to stay and fight for his place.

Coquelin, meanwhile has also had a battle on for his place. He has successfully kept £30m summer signing Granit Xhaka out of the team, building up an effective partnership with Santi Cazorla before the latter’s injury.

Though they are borderline starters at this point with the emergence of Alexis Sanchez as a viable striker option and the purchase of Granit Xhaka to take over the defensive midfielder position, it’s important for the club to reward and tie down two members who have substantial impact to offer off the bench or as spot starters.

Will Ozil and Sanchez be the next duo to sign Arsenal deals?
