Deal close: Higuain will most likely join Arsenal, Napoli’s official radio confirm

Arsenal have been handed a boost in their chase for Gonzalo Higuain, with local Italian radio station Radio Crc reporting that the forward is open to a switch to the Premier League, despite being heavily linked with Juventus.

Gonzalo Higuain

Higuain is expected to leave the Italians after a record-breaking season which saw him eclipse the record for most goals scored in a single Serie A campaign, with 36 in 35 games.

The Gunners have long been linked with a move for the Argentine prior to his 2013 move to Napoli, with Arsene Wenger tracking the former Real Madrid man after he fell out of favour at the Bernabeu.

Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli is the official radio station of the club and host Francesco Marciano made his suggestion this afternoon. Calcio Napoli 24 have also strengthened the claim about what Marciano had to say.

One thing the radio station are certain of is that Higuain’s time in Naples is over. Regardless of his next destination, they reckon he won’t be a Napoli player by the end of the summer and it seems the transfer saga is set to roll on.

According to Football Italia, he said:

“At the moment the rumour linking Higuain to Juve is true, but I am certain that in the end Pipita will leave Napoli to go abroad.

“He will almost certainly join Arsenal. For now the Gunners are offering €50m plus Giroud. Arsenal are trying to free up funds by selling players so they can increase the economic part of the proposal.”

The agent of Olivier Giroud has also stoked the flames recently by admitting he would be extremely interested in linking up at the Stadio San Paolo.

“There is no fear in Olivier going to Napoli, it is a magnificent city,” he told French radio station ‘Radio CRC’.

“In Campania, my client would lead a wonderful life, not to mention that the type of game orchestrated by Napoli coach Maurizio Sarri could enhance the quality of a centre-forward like him.

“At the moment, Giroud is an Arsenal player. If he was asked to leave, then we would evaluate our options.”

It’ll be hurting to see Giroud go but it would be devastating for the club if we don’t get a top class striker who can score 30-35 goals per season. Arsenal doesn’t need a replacement for Giroud but another striker who could compliment our style of play.

The former Real Madrid striker would definitely add more pace and slightly higher consistency of finishing, besides an ability to run at defenders with the ball around the box that Arsenal currently lack.

Giroud has also had a mixed international tournament with hosts France at Euro 2016, where he ended up with the Bronze Boot for his 3 goals and 2 assists in the tournament.

However, both strikers have gone missing for their teams in the big games and there is some doubt as to whether Higuain will be a definite improvement on Giroud’s return of 24 goals for the Gunners last season.

Let’s hope Arsenal meet Napoli’s valuation of the player and we get our striker.
