According to El Confidential, Deportivo striker Lucas Perez is ‘certain’ to sign for Arsenal in a £17million deal after the Gunners hijacked Everton’s move for the 27-year-old.

The 27 year old has reportedly been a target for Ronald Koeman but the Spanish publication says that a ‘surprise’ bid from Arsenal has emerged and that the player is keen to move to North London.

The Merseysiders have been long linked to the forward, and were willing to meet his £16.9m buyout clause. Valencia also wanted Lucas as a replacement for Paco Alcacer, who is a target for Barcelona.

However, on enquiring, Valencia were told by Deportivo that Lucas was close to an agreement with Arsenal.

Even MARCA have reported that Lucas Perez himself is very keen on a move to Arsenal with massive appreciation for Arsene Wenger and the club’s style of play with Champions League participation also a factor.

Perez began his career at youth level with Atletico Madrid and has since played for Rayo Vallecano, Karpaty Lviv, Dinamo Kiev (loan), PAOK, and most recently Deportivo.

Perez is yet to earn a cap for Spain but is quick and can play off the wing or as a central striker scoring 17 goals and 10 assists in 36 appearances for Deportivo La Coruna in La Liga. He started this season with a goal from the penalty spot late in the match to earn his side 2-1 win over Eibar.

Most Arsenal fans seem to have never heard of him, and have needed the aid of Youtube to research their soon-to-be new striker. He is hardly the world class option people would like but he may be the one who can do things which Giroud can’t.

Though the signing is unlikely to appease those calling for a glamour arrival, any deal for Perez is likely to relieve the burden on Olivier Giroud’s shoulders.

Do you think Perez would make a good signing for Arsenal?
