Deal close: Arsenal expected to complete striker signing in few days

Takuma Asano

If you have been keeping an eye on Arsenal’s transfer rumors over the past few weeks including the surprising Vardy bid, it is evident the Gunners are on the look-out for a striker.

That wait might not get much longer as reports in ESPN claim that the North London club are set to complete the signing of Japan international Takuma Asano in few more days.

Arsenal have already completed the signing of Granit Xhaka last month and Wenger recently confirmed that he is looking to sign 2 more players this summer.

The reports in ESPN quoting sources from within the club confirmed that the Gunners are expecting to complete the transfer within the next few days. Asano who plays for Sanfrecce Hiroshima is a Japan international and is highly rated in his home country.

The youngster recently confirmed that the Emirates club have been in contact with him, while also claiming that he was flattered by the interest from one of Europe’s biggest clubs. He said:

“If I am loaned elsewhere, my take on it is that I give it 100 percent,” Asano is quoted as saying by Kyodo News on Thursday.

“I was a little stunned [about the interest]. But I feel like I have the confidence to succeed wherever I go.”

Arsenal’s striker search which started in England seems to have ended up in Asia with Takuma Asano. The 21-year-old has played all of his football in his home country so far and scored 9 goals in 34 appearances last season.

The report further states that the striker is expected to leave the London club on loan once he joins, so it seems Wenger is eyeing the youngster as a future prospect. He never played football at this level so it seems the manager is gambling on reports from his scouts.

The Gunners haven’t had much success as Japanese recruits Inamoto and Miyachi failed to make an impact at Arsenal despite being huge prospects to succeed. I guess it is more of a business decision but you never know maybe he will just turn out right.

We still need a striker and with United signing Ibrahimovic it is only building up pressure on Arsene Wenger to find a forward who will propel the Gunners to their elusive Premier League title next season.
