Deal Close: £100,000-a-week Man City target will sign Arsenal contract, agent confirms

Hector Bellerin in Training

Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin is set to sign a new contract extension with the club after fruitful discussions over the past few weeks, his agent has revealed.

The 21-year-old joined the Gunners in 2011 from Barcelona on a free transfer and the Spaniard signed his first professional contract in 2013.

The youngster has earned lavish praise from all corners since graduating from the youth sides to the Arsenal first team. His journey has been quick and will be a model for the other youngsters playing for the junior teams.

There have been reports over the past weeks that Barcelona and Manchester City have expressed interest in signing the right-back. However, Bellerin in an interview yesterday confirmed that he is planning to stay at Arsenal for a very long time, subsiding any fears of a move.

Bellerin’s agent, Albert Botines, has confirmed that the young Spaniard is on the verge of committing his future to the club beyond the end of his current deal. Speaking to the Guardian, he said:

We are speaking and are now a lot closer than we were two weeks ago. In a normal situation he will sign.

Hector is very happy at Arsenal. This would be the fourth time he has signed a new contract at the club and it is clear he has made good progress.

Recently Times, claimed that the Gunners have offered the Spaniard a new five-year deal which will also almost double his current pay from £50,000-a-week to £100,000-a-week.

The youngster, who has always been vocal on staying at the club still has 2 years left on his current contract and if this contract extension is sealed then the right-back will stay at the club for a foreseeable future.

He was initially called up to the first team to provide backup for Debuchy, but slowly took his chances and surprised one and all with his assured performances at right back, ultimately replacing the Frenchman as Wenger’s first choice.

The Spaniard has been a revelation since bursting on to the scene two years back and has turned out to be one of the best right-backs all around Europe. His pace going forward is one of his lethal strengths and his defensive traits are also pretty strong.

It’s great to see such a sought after youngster committing his long term future to Arsenal. Hopefully Ozil and Sanchez will follow suit.
