Club president officially confirms Arsenal have made ‘very nice’ offer for £60m striker

Alexandre Lacazette

Arsenal appear to have lodged a formal bid to sign Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette after Les Gones president Jean-Michel Aulas confirmed that his side have received a ‘very nice’ offer from the north London club.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has modified his attacking options over the past year or so with Alexis Sanchez being pushed into a more central role where he earned much success during the first half of last season.

Following the turn of the year, the 67-year-old decided to switch his frontline a bit with Olivier Giroud and Danny Welbeck, who came through a long injury layoff being rotated in the striking department.

Despite this, Sanchez managed to notch 30 goals and 15 assists in the season just past, and this has attracted interest from German giants Bayern Munich, given he is approaching the final year of his contract.

Lyon’s Lacazette has been linked with a Gunners move in recent years, and the French club came public with the player’s offers last summer, none of which matched their valuation.

During the presentation of new left-back signing Fernando Marçal, Aulas openly suggested that he has received a ‘very nice offer’ from the FA Cup holders for his main striker, but the marksman could still remain at the club.

“Lacazette was told he could leave,” Aulas is quoted by Metro. “We now have a very nice offer from Arsenal. But for us he will not leave.”

Lacazette is currently valued at £60m at Lyon, and Aulas statement gives a hint that the Gunners may have fallen short of the player’s asking price again.

The France international has bagged over 20 goals in each of his last four seasons at Lyon, and he is now keen on a big-club move, through which he could improve his international prospects ahead of next year’s World Cup.
