Bad news for Arsenal as second player suffers injury blow on international duty

Koscielny

Arsenal have suffered another injury setback with Laurent Koscielny having played no part in France’s international friendly against Colombia on Friday night.

The Gunners centre-back had picked up a back problem following a kick in the AC Milan game earlier this month, and this saw him substituted after just 11 minutes onto the pitch.

Despite this, the Frenchman was called up to Didier Deschamps’ side for the internationals but was left of Les Bleus’ 3-2 defeat at the hands of Colombia.

France have another friendly against 2018 World Cup hosts Russia before the break, and it will be interesting to see whether the 32-year-old is involved ahead of one of Samuel Umtiti or Raphael Varane.

Meanwhile, Jack Wilshere has also suffered a minor injury in a training session with England, this saw him their 1-0 win over the Netherlands last night.

The England international is said to have a suffered a minor knee problem, but manager Gareth Southgate is hoping that the midfielder can make his much-awaited Three Lions return versus Italy next week.

With the season nearing its close, Arsenal need to have their key players in the right shape, and the fans will hope that none of them are risked whilst carrying minor knocks.

The chances of a top-four finish appear unlikely after falling 13 points behind Tottenham Hotspur with just eight games left, and the Europa League is supposedly the main priority following the break.

The Gunners have a winnable two-legged tie against CSKA Moscow in the quarter-final of the competition, and Alexandre Lacazette is likely to provide a significant boost upfront after returning to training.
