Bad News: Another Arsenal star ruled out for 3-4 weeks after Cazorla setback

Arsenal have reportedly suffered another injury blow with midfielder Mohamed Elneny ruled out for 3-4 weeks with an ankle injury, according to reports in Egyptian media outlet KingFut.

The midfielder picked up the injury during the Gunners 2-0 win against Sutton United on Monday night in the FA Cup pre-quarterfinals.

The Egyptian continued to play after receiving treatment but was replaced by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain at the lemon break.

Wenger in his post-match press conference didn’t give too much away, expect for the fact that they were awaiting the scan results before judging the seriousness of the injury.

It seems the scan results did come in and as per reports in King Fut, the midfielder is suffering from a ligament tear in his ankle which will keep him out from first team action for at least 3-4 weeks.

If the report is indeed true, then Elneny will be out at least until March end which means he will miss some really important games.

The defensive midfielder is likely to miss Premier League games against Liverpool and Leicester along with Bayern Munich’s visit to the Emirates in the Champions League and also the FA Cup quarter-finals against Lincoln City.

The Gunners are adequately covered in defensive midfield with Coquelin and Xhaka still available, but Wenger wouldn’t be too confident as the duo have been struggling over the past month or so.

Arsenal also have Chamberlain to fill-in when needed, but such a move would seriously jeopardize the defense which is already brittle. Elneny hasn’t featured much this season but has been instrumental when called upon, majorly in Xhaka’s absence.

The news comes shortly after it was reported that Santi Cazorla has been ruled out for the rest of the season with his on-going Achilles injury.

Will Elneny’s injury hurt Arsenal?
