Arsenal ready £25m move for Ardan Turan, Wenger also hints at Mahrez bid

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is reportedly keen on strengthening his forward options this summer in order to offer a strong challenge for the Premier League crown next season.

The long-standing manager inked a fresh two-year extension this year with the promise of bringing back the glory days at the north London club.

Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo cites that Wenger has his eye on signing two quality wingers as he bids to end the club’s lengthy wait for the English title.

Barcelona’s Arda Turan had bought a house in London earlier last month, and it is suggested that the Gunners are ready to pay £25m to pursue his signature during the summer transfer window.

The former Atleti man has largely played backup to Lionel Messi and Neymar for the wide positions, and he has seemingly grown frustrated with his stay at Camp Nou.

Barca boss Ernesto Valverde appears to have already given the green light for the winger’s sale, and his destination could be the Emirates unless a bigger club comes along for his signature.

Meanwhile, Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez is also back on the Gunners radar after Arsene Wenger recently admitted that he would be interested in a fresh attempt to sign the Algerian. Speaking to Bein Sports, he said:

“Have we made a bid for him? No. Not yet. No, we have not. When I say ‘not yet’ it means it could happen. It might not happen.”

Mahrez had an average season with the former English champions last term, but he still is highly regarded by Wenger, who is a firm admirer of the player’s talents.

However, the FA Cup champions could face potential competition from Barcelona for the attacker with the Catalan giants having previously failed with an approach last year.

As things stand, Wenger may not be able to land both of his prime targets as the signing of Turan could potentially trigger Mahrez’s switch to Catalonia in the summer.
