Arsenal’s season thus far: Good, bad and what’s coming

The current season hasn’t been short of positives thus far. The signing of Mustafi has improved the stability at the back: his intense, competitive play has complemented well with koscielny, creating one of the best defensive partnership in the Gunners back-line since the Invincibles.

One of the North London club’s major highlights of the season has been the rise and rise of young Iwobi. He is a brilliant passer of the ball, has good ball control and also a decent eye for goal. His attacking approach has helped in suffocating opposition teams.

The emergency of Sanchez as the center of Arsenals attack has been brilliant and kudos to Wenger for bravely benching a not too bad Olivier in favour of the relentlessly hard running, hard grafting and sharp shooting Chilean.

While Olivier is slow and not too creative and incisive in interplay, Sanchez is the direct oppositive and brings in other players into attack such as the much improved Ozil. This has helped to improve the seasons goals overhaul.

Whilst the jury is still out on Walcott, the Ox, Xhaka and to somewhat unlucky Perez, there is little doubt they collectively hold promise to a successful season.

Perez has been unlucky though, because his favoured central attacking position is highly contested and the incumbent, red hot Sanchez has taken the position to be his hook, line and sinker. Perez’s hat trick in Switzerland however goes to underline how potent he is in front of goal, especially for someone starved of game time.

Everything has been quite positive for the North London club this season, except for some injuries to Cazorla and now Mustafi. However, luckily both the players along with Welbeck are expected to return in the next two months, so it’s not really that bad.

Arsenal’s latest slip up at Everton has raised a few incredulous eyebrows. Could this be another of those flatter to deceive seasons or are we looking at genuine title contenders?

The game at City may hold some answers for us to that question. The absence of Mustafi , the rock of Gibraltar – will it create a soccer waterloo for the highly promising season?

The jury is out.
