Arsenal have a made final offer to retain the services of Mesut Ozil, as per latest reports in The Sun.
He was given an ultimatum to decide his future before Christmas and that decision is expected to be announced within days.
Arsenal had to take a tough stance with both Ozil and Sanchez and the club pressed for an answer from the German so they could plan ahead for the January window.
He had a few options but at the age of 29, it’s understandable why he has taken time to make his choice. This is likely to be the final move of his career and as such, he just needed to be convinced that it was the right move for him but where will he go?
It’s also been an emotional decision because Schalke were rumoured to be interested in the player who has strong ties to the club. Barcelona and Manchester United were also said to be in the chase for the midfielder’s signature but Arsenal are not out of the running yet.
It’s said that in the last few weeks, the playmaker has reconsidered his position and if the finer points can be ironed out between the club and his agent, North London could still be his home.
It’s no longer all about money and is more likely resting on if the player and clubs ambitions are aligned. He will also want some reassurances that Sanchez will be replaced with someone of equal quality, although that is going to be a tough ask.
Fans will be ecstatic to hear that the World Cup winner may extend his stay because of his undeniable quality and ability to unpick a defence with a slide rule pass.
There is also the promise of an outstanding partnership between himself and hot shot Alexandre Lacazette if he remains.
