Arsenal set to complete £55.4m Aubameyang transfer deal, as Dortmund close in on Chelsea striker

Aubameyang

Arsenal’s move to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is drawing closer to Borussia Dortmund reported to be close to signing Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi.

The Gunners have been in discussions with Borussia Dortmund for Aubameyang over the past few weeks, and it appears that they are approaching a club-record £55.4m agreement which may potentially include add-ons.

According to The Mirror, Chelsea marksman Michy Batshuayi is likely to make the switch to Dortmund on a temporary basis for the campaign, and this will quicken the Gunners’ pursuit of Aubameyang.

Initially, Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud was associated with a potential move to Signal Iduna Park, but an impasse in discussions has urged the Bundesliga outfit to switch their focus elsewhere.

Batshuayi has largely played second fiddle to Alvaro Morata at Stamford Bridge, and his exit still has a restriction with the Blues in need of a replacement first this month.

Aubameyang was jeered by the Dortmund faithful during the recent 2-2 draw versus Freiburg over the weekend, and it appears set to be his final BvB appearance before heading to north London.

Alexandre Lacazette has been leading the line for the Gunners since his arrival in the summer, and it will be interesting to see how Wenger handles his compatriot upon Aubameyang’s arrival.

Aubameyang and Lacazette have plyed their trades out wide earlier in their respective careers, but the latter of the pair could be the one to sacrifice his central role.

If we can pull off Aubameyang signing, it would be an excellent transfer window for the Gunners despite losing Alexis Sanchez to United.
