Arsenal have almost killed off any hope of midfielder Jack Wilshere resigning for the club. The club want the player on the cheap and have offered a derisory deal which depends on appearances.
Wilshere’s advisors have informed Arsenal that the offer is unacceptable and that they have until the end of the season to improve the figures involved.
That improved offer may not appear and it’s said that the clubs prime target to replace Wilshere and Cazorla is Lyon’s Nabil Fekir, as per close sources in the Emirates club.
The attacking midfielder was sounded out by Arsenal in the January window but the club were informed that the player was not available.
That will no doubt change if Arsenal are happy to stump up a decent sum but why are the club not going with Wilshere? He has been almost imperious at times this season and is in good physical and mental shape.
Wenger is apparently unconvinced by his ability to focus on his football and abandon his headline-grabbing behaviour of old. He has played incredibly well since breaking back into the side but hasn’t dominated often enough.
Arsenal are fairly star heavy in certain areas and the midfield not only has Ozil but Mkhitaryan too and it’s thought that both are forging such a good understanding with teammates that Wilshere is not deemed as essential.
Aaron Ramsey’s contract negotiations are still ongoing and perhaps with the likes of Elneny and Xhaka, the club feel they have a surplus in the midfield/defensive midfield positions.
Everton are said to be keeping an eye on the Wilshere situation but there will be a whole host of clubs interested in the star if he were to become available.
Football has become an uncompromising business that rarely allows for sentiment and as such, even given that Wilshere has grown up at the club, it may count for nothing.
If Arsenal do go for 24-year-old French midfielder, he is very much in the Arsenal mould. A creative, attacking midfielder, who can set up goals but can also find the back of the net. If Wilshere were to end his time at Arsenal, Fekir would be ideal but he is also fancied by Real Madrid and Zidane, which may make negotiations more difficult.
