Arsenal target close to quitting PSG, as agent confirms interest

Marquinhos

The agent of Brazilian defender (Marcos Aoás Corrêa) popularly known as Marqinhos has claimed that Arsenal are among the clubs who made enquiries about the unhappy Paris Saint-Germain defender this summer, according to the L’Equipe via the Express.

The 22-year-old ace departed from Roma in 2013 in the favour of joining PSG but he found it difficult to establish himself in his preferred central defensive role with many of his 29 games last term featuring at right-back.

Thiago Silva and David Luiz have been preferred by the club ahead of the Brazilian international and it seem Marquinhos has lost the battle of forcing his way into the heart of defense for the Ligue 1 champions.

Marquinhos, 22, has already made it opened that he is willing to play for his national team at the tournament in his homeland, and has been quoted saying:

“I’ve been working for 12 years to experience such a challenge – I want to participate in the adventure and be with my teammates,” Marquinhos is quoted as saying by the Express

“So I can tell you that, yes, I want to be there for myself, for my family, for my friends.”

However, Marquinhos’ future at the Parc des Princes stadium is uncertain after new manager claimed it would be preferred if Marquinhos miss the Olympics and the Brazilian international’s agent and brother, Luan, has now approached the club, from where he could depart  this summer.

Quoted by the Express Luan said:

“Marquinhos has always been exemplary with the club – he’s never complained,”

“He has however often been a spectator during big matches… we were clear Marquinhos is going to play at the Olympics.

“Until now, we’ve been cooperative. But it can no longer continue like that otherwise we’re going to enter into a conflict. Our patience has limits.

“We like the club, the supporters, but they also have to show us a minimum of respect or else he’s going to have to leave PSG.”

The news outlet’s story  focused on a report in L’Equipe, according to which Luan mentioned Arsenal as one of the clubs  interested in  signing  Marquinhos this summer – although there is no direct quote on the matter from Luan anywhere to back this matter.

If, this were true, Arsenal would not be the only club interested; Chelsea, Manchester United and Barcelona are also interested in the Brazil international and have also made inquiries for the unsettled defender.

Given his qualities as a defender, there is no doubt that Marquinhos would be a great addition to the squad, though there are doubts whether Wenger wants a defender in the mould of the young Brazilian.
