Arsenal should replace Mesut Ozil with this Real Madrid star, claims Paul Merson

Mesut Ozil

Mesut Ozil who is currently the highest earning player in the Arsenal squad should be replaced with Gareth Bale, according to former Gunners player Paul Merson.

The Arsenal legend who is currently an analyst had this to say about the situation around the German playmaker. Speaking in his Daily Star column(as per Metro), he said:

“I think he suits Arsenal down to the ground as well. If they could get him in and get Mesut Ozil out they’ve had a big result.”

But he also went to say that the more likely destination for Bale would be Manchester United if he was to leave Spain for England. He further added:

“Manchester United looks like the best fit for him. They’ve tried to sign him before and it didn’t come off, but he’s always felt like their kind of player.”

If the North London club were to get Bale, it would be a quite a controversial move given the fact that he has already played for Tottenham in the past. Arsenal’s rivalry with Spurs may prevent this deal from happening.

But as we know from the Sol Campbell deal a long time ago, anything is possible in the world of football and it would not be too far-fetched to see Bale at the Emirates.

For this to happen though, the club will have to offload Mesut Ozil. Earlier on, there were reports(as per Metro) that he was being offered to other clubs in China and Italy.

The German is happy with the Emirates club and it is a little difficult to see him leave the club. Even though he has been in the plans of manager Unai Emery in the recent past, there are still some doubts about their compatibility.

If those issues do continue for some more time, there might be a situation where the German might decide to leave the club for more playing time.

Until then, all that we have will be speculation. It goes without saying that the Gunners would certainly love to have a player of the caliber of Bale in the squad. But, a lot of this will depend on what happens to the future of Mesut Ozil.
