Arsenal complete first summer signing, 23-year-old signs five-year contract

Kolasinac

Arsenal have acquired the signature of Schalke 04 full-back Sead Kolasinac on a free transfer, a report from Football.London suggests.

The Bosnian international, who has also been linked with likes of Chelsea and Manchester City has opted to link up with the Gunners after he received assurances of Arsene Wenger’s stay earlier in April.

According to Football.London, the 23-year-old will be heading to the Emirates in the summer transfer window with the north London club having settled on a five-year contract for his signature.

The former Germany youth international had been spotted waving his goodbyes to the club’s faithful following the 1-1 draw versus Hamburg at home, and this has given a clear indication of his proposed departure after having turned down a fresh contract.

Both Nacho Monreal and Kieran Gibbs have managed to get playing time together in the new 3-4-2-1 formation, but there are still doubts over their futures with the latter yet to resolve his contract beyond next season.

Monreal has been associated with a switch to Athletic Bilbao over the past few years, and it is suggested that the Basque outfit could retain their interest during the coming transfer window.

Apart from his usual left-back position, Kolasinac has also featured at left wing-back, centre-back and in holding midfield, and this will provided the Gunners with additional squad depth ahead of the 2017/18 season.

Kolasinac is reported to have already passed a series of medical tests with the FA Cup finalists, and an announcement could made once the season comes to a close.

Arsene Wenger’s side are currently just a point below fourth-placed Liverpool, who hold the final Champions League place, and they will hoping that the Reds slip up against West Ham United on Sunday in order to strengthen the quest for their annual top-four finish.
