Arsenal Roundup: FA Cup latest, Invincible defender and much more

Arsenal

Today on roundtable talk, our focus is on the latest updates as regards Arsenal and shout outs to outstanding players in the team so far.

FA Cup replays took place on Jan 18th as scheduled and the main focus as far as Arsenal is concerned was the game between Southampton and Norwich.

I had a feeling we would get a chance to enact vengeance on Southampton in a cup tie after they successfully tossed us out of the Carling cup…..again!

Anyway, they beat Norwich City with a lone goal courtesy of Shane Long’s 90th-minute strike and thus set up a clash against the Gunners.

The clash will be away at The St. Mary’s Stadium where Arsenal have had more than their fair share of losses against the Saints.

Considering how seriously Arsene Wenger takes the FA Cup, I expect nothing short of a convincing victory.

My prediction for that game is 4-nil to the North London club because of the Boxing Day defeat we endured on that very pitch in 2015. From the scoreline to Shane Long’s antics especially on Koscielny and the refereeing that day by Jonathan Moss was diabolical.

Moving on, there is an Arsenal man who despite playing more than 20 matches in an Arsenal shirt has simply refused to lose. With an eye for incisive passes from the backline, to a penchant for niggling at opposition’s feet and an ability to whip in crosses,…….Ladies and gentlemen, give it up for Shkodran Mustafi.

His personal record in an Arsenal shirt after 18 premier league games, 6 Champions League matches shows he has a winner’s mentality imbedded and he has more than justified his selection on the side.

Alex Iwobi having won the African Youth Player of the year award has continuously proved by his displays why he was accorded the honor in the first place.

With his technical ability fused with a body structure and willingness for strong play but in the Nigerian national side and Arsenal FC, Alex Iwobi is certainly walking the lane to legendary status on both fronts.

As seen his ability on the ball is just beautiful to watch. I suppose the talent runs in the genes being Austin “Jay Jay ” Okocha’s nephew.

Lastly, Arsenal takes on Burnley in the English Premier league this weekend. Hopefully, Olivier Giroud will be over his ankle issues and be back and play some part in the game.

Most of my thoughts will gravitate in that direction from now till the weekend. Watch out for matchday reports and leave your comments behind.

Stay safe!
