Arsenal ready £32m bid for Serie A striker after Vardy snub

Arsenal have turned their attention to Inter Milan captain Mauro Icardi after Jamie Vardy snub.

Mauro Icardi

The potential transfer of  England and Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy to Arsenal has now come to an end, with Arsene Wenger as well as Leicester City confirming that the player will be staying with the current premier league champions.

In the light of this development, Arsenal  have re-ignited their long lost interest in Inter Milan striker and captain Mauro Icardi, and are reportedly readying a bid of around £32m for the Argentine front man, talkSPORT understands.

Icardi, who currently captains Inter Milan, scored 16 times in 33 appearances for his team at the San Siro, has been previously linked with Arsenal on various junctures.  The Mirror, reported in May that Arsene Wenger had apparently been keeping tabs on the Argentinian striker who has featured only once for the Argentina national team.

While the San Siro skipper may not be as big a name as Romelu Lukaku or Gonzalo Higuain, (Two strikers who have in previous windows as well in recent weeks, been linked with a move to the Emirates), his qualities up front are undoubtedly second to none.

Mauro Icardi has been a prolific goal scorer for the Italian side, having scored 47 times in 88 games in the domestic league and a total of 52 times in a 102 games in all competitions.

To be able to score that many goals in a league that is usually packed in defensive and in front of the goal post cannot be easy by any stretch of imagination, and the fact that the 23 year old has achieved these numbers can only account for his qualities as a prolific goal scorer, one that Arsenal have been in search of for a while now. In addition to his game stats, Icardi is also intelligent off the ball, and frequently makes intelligent and well times runs into the opponents’ 18 yard box.

There is no guarantee at the moment that Inter Milan will depart with their prolific goal scorer, especially  for the fee that Arsenal are reportedly willing to try and lure him for. Whether £32 m bid is enough to tempt Inter to sell their captain seems unlikely at this moment. One can , however be bale to make more of this transfer business when Arsenal make their first move.

It can be said with some conviction however, that while Icardi will not come in cheap, he is definitely going to be available for a lower price than the strikers Arsenal have been linked with so far. Whether his qualities are worth the reported price money for which he is reportedly available, is however, debatable.
