Arsenal move to seal deal for £51.5m star as wage offer made, striker wants move

Alvaro Morata

Arsenal have reportedly made a wage offer for Alvaro Morata as the striker is looking to leave Real Madrid, according to reports in the Daily Star.

Since his return from Juventus in the summer, the forward has fallen out of favour at the Bernabeu this season, having started just nine of his 25 appearances in all competitions.

The 24-year-old has been continuously linked with the North London club over the past few years and reports last summer claimed that Wenger was interested in bringing the forward.

However, the Spaniard eventually made a move back to the Bernabeu after Madrid triggered a buyback clause in his contract.

Latest reports from Spanish outlet Diario Gol, claim that Morata is now looking to leave after becoming frustrated with life on the bench.

It further states that the Gunners have shown the most interest and have also reportedly made a wage offer the Spaniard. Arsenal will face stiff competition from other Premier League clubs who are also vying for the hitman.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez are ready to sell Morata, but the La Liga giants will want at least £51.5m to do business.

Morata is not an out-and-out goalscorer and likes to play off his teammates, enabling others to score more than he scores. He stretches opposition defenses out of shape with his movement and is an assured presence on the ball.

While he offers most of what Giroud offers, his exceptional work-rate means he is willing to drop deep and win the ball for his team. He has struggled to break into a Real Madrid team and it remains to be seen whether Wenger would be interested in shelling out that much money on a prospect.

There is no doubt that Arsenal can afford that kind of money but we won’t be able to compete with Chelsea in terms of the wages, so there’s still a long way to go before we see him at the Emirates.

Any potential deal will wait until the summer, as there is no real need to bring in another goalscorer unless Sanchez leaves. Negotiations over a new contract have been going on for a while and unless the Chilean shocks everyone and leaves, there is no real need for Morata.
