Arsenal midfielder confirms his season is over after injury setback

Gedion Zelalem

Arsenal midfielder Gedion Zelalem has confirmed that his season is over after suffering a fresh setback on his recovery from an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

The Gunner graduate sustained the problem towards the tail-end of last season where he was with the United States at the Under-20 World Cup.

It now appears that he will return to full fitness prior to the Gunners’ pre-season schedule.

Here is the Instagram post from Zelalem:

The 21-year-old is presently contracted to the club until the summer of 2019, and it won’t be an understatement to suggest that his performances next term, may determine his Gunners future.

Once touted as the new Cesc Fabregas, Zelalem has not quite managed to command a regular role with the Gunners first-team, and much of it has to do with the club’s transfer policy in recent seasons.

Arsene Wenger has preferred to go with tried and tested recruits at the heart of the Gunners’ midfield unlike in the earlier seasons, and this has restricted the youngster to loan spells with the likes of Rangers and VVV Venlo.

The futures of Wilshere and Ramsey have not yet been resolved. Hopefully, they will both sign, but who knows. Even if the stay, the North London club is still short of options in the midfield and Zelalem is the exact type of player a typical Arsenal midfield consists of. Small in stature, sound feet and exceptional attacking vision.

Aside from this, he has made four senior appearances for the Arsenal side, none of which, have come in the Premier League, however.
