Arsenal open negotiations for CSKA midfielder Aleksandr Golovin

Predicted Arsenal Line-up

Arsenal are reportedly understood to be in the running to sign Russian’s poster boy Aleksandr Golovin this summer.

The CSKA midfielder has been monitored by the Gunners since the reign under former boss Arsene Wenger and Spanish broadcaster Cadena Ser claim that the North London club are still holding an interest and have begun negotiations.

According to the outlet, Juventus are have been in talks for a while but no deal has been sorted out yet with CSKA.

The Bianconeri are ready to pay €20m for the midfielder but CSKA are demanding €25m. However, the Gunners have now initiated contact and have intensified their efforts to sign him.

Golovin has done his growing reputation no harm with a couple of assists and a goal in the 5-0 rout of Saudi Arabia. Based on the World Cup opener, Golovin looked like a world-beater but it could be said that Saudi’s defence was in tatters for most of the game.

As such, the midfielder’s real value could be seen against the likes of Uruguay, who possessed one of the most impressive central defensive partnerships in Diego Godin and Jose Gimenez.

A year ago, Golovin may have been seen as a quality young player, who could strengthen the Gunners’ attack but at present, there is no urgency to strength the forward line.

In this case, the club may likely to pass on the signing of Golovin for a more defensive-minded player in Lucas Torreira, who should the much-needed steel in the centre of the park.
