Arsenal ready to complete move for £140,000-a-week star, transfer could be done this summer

Mesut Ozil

Arsenal have reportedly decided against retaining the services of midfielder Mesut Ozil owing to his reluctance to extend his contract at the Emirates.

The Germany international currently has just 14 months left on his present deal, and he is said to have demanded a staggering £300,000 weekly package to prolong his stay.

According to The Express, via Don Balon, the Gunners will not come close to Ozil’s wage demands with Arsene Wenger reluctant to pay massive sums on a single player.

Ozil, who is on a weekly wage of £140,000, had been found using foul language at medical offer Gary O’Driscoll after the Spurs defeat, and this has not gone well with the some of the club’s faithful, who are already at odds with the attacker.

The World Cup winner has largely failed to present himself in the big games this term, and this looks likely to hamper his Gunners future with the club holding out for a £200,000-a-week salary offer at best.

Ozil had started off the season in fine fashion as he provided key goals including one against league leaders Chelsea, which ended the Gunners’ winless streak against their west London rivals.

However, as the season has gone on, the playmaker has had issues with injuries which coupled with the lack of commitment has seen him become a passenger on the playing field.

As of now, the future does not look great for Ozil in north London, and he could be joined by teammate Alexis Sanchez, who is said to demand a similar weekly wage in order to stay put at Arsenal.

Gunners boss Wenger has previously insisted (The Sun) that Sanchez will remain at the Emirates next season – regardless of his contract situation, and this could see the club cash in on their highest-paid player in Ozil this summer.
