Galatasaray are plotting a surprise £17m move for Danny Welbeck

Turkish giants Galatasaray are plotting a surprise move to bring Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck to the Türk Telekom Arena this summer.

The England international has endured an injury-hit spell at the Emirates since his Manchester United switch in 2014, but he has still made himself a favourite among the club’s faithful.

According to The Mail, Gala are planning a potential raid on the former Red Devils striker, who has got a regular run in the starting lineup in recent weeks.

The 26-year-old has notched four goals in 17 appearances during the ongoing campaign, but he is understood to be assessing his future amid the uncertainty over the position of manager Arsene Wenger.

Wenger has been key to bringing a whole lot of players to the Emirates, and his decision to decline a fresh contract beyond this summer, could see a mass exodus in north London.

In spite of this, it is highly unlikely that Welbeck would favour a move to Istanbul, given the instability in the political situation over the past couple of years.

The £70,000-a-week marksman finds himself out of the reckoning for the England national team, and he may have to get a consistent run of games in order to prove his worth to Gareth Southgate.

The FA Cup finalists are due to move for a new centre-forward during the summer, and this could have an effect on the future of Welbeck, who will be eager to make the Three Lions squad for next year’s World Cup.

Galatasaray are prepared to cough up a fee of around £16m for Welbeck which is similar to what Arsenal paid to rivals Manchester United three years ago.
