Arsenal lining-up move for 39-goal super star striker

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Arsenal have been put on red alert following statements from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s national coach Jorge Costa that the forward is on the move even though his likely destination has not been revealed.

The 26-year-old has been linked with top clubs, with the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City, Barcelona, and Real Madrid all vying for his signature.

Speculations about his exit from Borussia Dortmund has been rife in the past few seasons, however, it now seems the striker has already made up his mind about taking up a fresh challenge.

The Gabon international is valued at £70 million looks certain to leave the German club this summer after Costa stated that the forward has asked for his permission to miss the country’s friendly matches against Mauritania and Ivory Coast because he is in the midst of a transfer, as per Goal.

“Aubameyang has asked not to be selected [for the national team] because he is changing clubs,” Costa told RFI (via Goal) during an interview.

Aubameyang scored 39 goals in 46 competitions for Dortmund last season, finishing as runners-up to Bayern Munich. Despite his goal-scoring ability, he is used to the counter-attacking style of play, which is contrary to Arsenal’s and might take him time to adapt.

Gunners’ manager Arsene Wenger aims to bring a new forward to the Emirates Stadium this summer and has been linked with a host of them, including Juventus striker Alvaro Morata who is topping his wish list.

However, it is still not certain who among them would end up being as Arsenal player next season. His goal scoring prowess is the kind of record we’ve sorely missed from our main striker ever since the days of RVP.

Arsenal obviously needs an established striker in the team. Danny Welbeck’s injury – which will keep him out of action for nine months- towards the end of last season added to the woes already being faced by the club up front due to Olivier Giroud inconsistency.

Undeniably, I think Aubameyang, who tallied 39 goals for Borussia Dortmund, would be conclusively considered an upgrade on either of those players. I’d love to see the Gabonese leading our attack up front.
