Arsenal in talks with player’s representative ahead of a possible move

Mehdi Benatia

There isn’t much on the transfer front right now but there are some soft rumors concerning the possible transfer of Morata from Turin to the Emirate stadium this summer.

With that in mind, here is the latest transfer news. Reports from France suggested that Arsenal will submit a bid for Bayern Munich defender Medhi Benatia this week.

The Guuners defence was fragile last season with Per Metersacker ageing and losing form, and Gabriel Paulista still struggling to cope with the rigorous pattern of playing in the Premier League.

Arsene Wenger is keen on signing a centre-back this summer and has been linked with a host of them, including Swansea’s Ashley Williams.

According to RMC Sport, Arsenal are ready to enter into negotiations with Benatia’s representatives in the coming days over a possible transfer to the club.

Benatia, despite being a key member of the Bavarian has been limited by injuries since joining the club from Roma in 2014 and has fallen down the pecking order.

The signing of Mats Hummel from Borussia Dortmund has also put his future at Allianz Arena in more doubt.

It is expected the Morocco international would want to move on in search of first-team action and Wenger who has already shown interest in him wants him at the Emirates stadium next season.

The 29-year-old has also lamented about his struggles and injuries since moving to Germany.

He said: “Here in Munich I have experienced the two most difficult years in my career. “I don’t wish what has happened to me on anyone. “I want to be part of the team.”

“The coach trusts you, but you are always injured and this isn’t easy. I can’t explain why I am injured that often.

“I have three years contract left in Munich. If Bayern want me to leave – no problem. If they want me to stay”

If the Benatia deal can go through then it will be a great as he will bring a deal of mental strength to the back line which has been lacking for the past few years.

However, according to the Metro, Arsenal will have to fend off competition from Benatia’s former employer AS Roma and Juventus who are both interested in his services.

Benatia has made 46 appearances and scored three goals for Bayern, winning the Bundesliga twice and the German Cup recently.
