Arsenal in race to sign Spanish hitman, club ready to sell

Alvaro Morata

Arsenal are hoping to win the race for the signature of Alvaro Morata ahead of Chelsea for a deal worth £45m this summer but are waiting to see what the Los Blancos outfit’s plans are for the Spanish international, according to the Mirror.

The Gunners have been strongly trying all they can to lure in Morata this summer as Arsene Wenger looks to sign a big name striker to compete with French international Olivier Giroud next season after Leicester City top striker Jamie Vardy snubbed a move to Arsenal and decided to stay at the Kings Power Stadium next term.

Serie A defending champions Juventus confirmed officially last week that Real had informed them they’ve activated a £23m buyback clause that was agreed in the deal that took the 23-year-old ace to Turin back in 2014.

There has been several rumors concerning what Madrid plan to do with the 23-year-old but Morata has made it clear that he doesn’t want to be a bench warmer, which is to be expected if Karim Benzema remains at the Bernabeu.

Per reports from the Mirror, Juve chief executive Giuseppe Marota is quoted as saying:

“Real Madrid have informed us of their intention to exercise the right to buy back [Morata], we are just waiting for a written offer.”

“Only then will we see how to proceed, but at the moment the possibility of Morata staying are slim. He will leave Turin and return to Spain.”

When Morata returns to Madrid which will be made official on July 1st the La Liga giants will look to cash-in on the youngster, according to reports in the Sun.

The report in the Mirror further states that Arsenal are still doing all they could to win the race to sign the highly-rated striker this summer but will face vast competition from as well as other top Europe clubs

Last week, Morata’s agent, Juanma Lopez, was quoted by the Daily Mail as saying that the 22-year-old ace has offers from top Premier League clubs with the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea but they’ll have to hold talks with Zidane before knowing what the future lies.

‘He still has offers from top clubs in the Premier League,’

‘As things stand he is a Madrid player from July 1. Whether he will stay or not, you have to ask Real Madrid.

‘We will see. We still have to talk to Zinedine Zidane, but for the moment Morata is happy.’

It is more or less clear that Madrid are looking to offload the youngster and Wenger I feel is still pondering about the £45m asking price, but if we sign him he could give the Gunners more options up front and could be a perfect foil to the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Olivier Giroud.

He was not too impressive last season netting just 12 goals in 47 games for Juve last but I think the Juve style of football does not fit him and that may be the cause because I feel he has the potential to become world hit man.
