Arsenal have reportedly been offered a timely boost to sign Schalke 04 midfielder Leon Goretzka ahead of this summer’s transfer window.

The 22-year-old is rated as one of the top midfield prospects in the Bundesliga, and his form alongside former Spurs star Nabil Bentaleb has been pleasing to watch for the Schalke faithful.

Goretzka, who earned his Germany recall earlier in the campaign, is currently stalling over a potential extension at Schalke, and this has urged them to consider his sale with his contract due to expire in 15 months’ time.

The midfielder has also been watched by Serie A holders Juventus in recent weeks, and according to Bild, the Royal Blues could be tempted to accept a £21m fee for his sale in the summer.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is fond of securing bargain deals in the transfer market, and it is understood that he could move in to sign the highly-rated midfielder, should he remain in charge beyond the summer.

The north London giants have found themselves short in the heart of midfield on occasions this season, and this is something they will seek to rectify when the transfer window reopens in July.

The likes of Santi Cazorla, Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will enter the final year of their contracts in the summer, and there is a distinct possibility that the club could lose at least one of the quartet during the off-season.

Arsenal have moved up to fifth in the Premier League standings following a resounding 3-0 win over West Ham United in midweek, which sees them just four points adrift of a Champions League place with an extra game to play.
