Arsenal get crucial update on Vardy’s transfer decision

Jamie Vardy

The battle over Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy continues and Arsenal will have to wait until after the European championship in France, according to the Telegraph.

The forward has been cut between staying at the King Power stadium and moving to the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal had expected an answer from him on Monday, probably a positive one, but the 29-year-old opted to join his team-mates aboard England flight to France, postponing decisions on his future till after the tournament.

England boss Roy Hodgson has maintained his stand against transfer talks during the championship, which means we have to wait until July if we are to sign him.

Sources have indicated that the club are prepared to wait for Vardy’s decision, which might take as long as five weeks if England get to the final, although manager Arsène Wenger may follow other targets during the competition.

It doesn’t seem to represent a good signal. Arsene Wenger believes that the striker would have accepted Arsenal’s offer if he is really interested in moving to the Emirates Stadium.

The Premier League have tabled a counter-offer of £100,000 a week to persuade their star player to remain at the club.

The Metro also reported that his Leicester team-mates Wes Morgan, Roberth Huth and Kasper Schmeichel have contacted him personally, trying to prevail on him to remain at the King Power stadium.

However, our hope of signing Vardy’s Leicester team-mate Riyad Mahrez has been boosted as the player is keen on moving to a top European club and has decided to leave the Foxes this summer, according to Goal.

The Daily Express reported that Arsenal has met with the player’s representatives and a bid of £25 million is on the cards.

Transfer expert Trancredi Palmeri claimed that there were series of meeting between Arsenal officials and the attacker’s representatives before an offer was made.

“Arsenal have bid €32m (£25m) for Mahrez. Arsenal, before bidding for Mahrez, had several meeting with the player’s entourage and the player is open for moving.” Palmeri tweeted.

Mahrez was instrumental to Leicester winning the league last season, scoring 17 goals and notching up 11 assists. He was rewarded with the individual award of the PFA Player of the Year.
