Arsenal favourites to sign Jackson Martinez after Porto agree to sell

Arsenal have emerged to be big time favourites to sign Porto striker Jackson Martinez after the Portuguese side agreed to let go the forward in the summer.

The forward has been in some sensational form this season scoring 20+ goals so far making him one of the most sought after strikers in the summer.

The Portuguese club had some offers on the table last year, but both the player and the club decided to extend their relationship. However the Porto president Pinto da Costa has confirmed that a deal is on the cards in the summer. He said:

Jackson almost left last summer but we agreed he’d stay one more year,’ he revealed.

If somebody pays [his value] he will go.

The striker himself confirmed earlier in the that he will make the move to another club in the summer and with the president now confirming the same, a move is seeming to be an foregone conclusion.

He is a prolific striker who has all the pace and physicality to flourish in the Premier League. His is a killer in front of the goal which is evident from his goal tally. We have been long linked with him, but his price tag has often forced us to drop the interest.

We are not in dire need of any new striker as we already have plenty of players fighting for a place in the starting line-up. Giroud has been in prolific form since his return and is finally living up to billing after initially struggling to make an impact on the side. Welbeck hasn’t been great in front of goal but his work ethic and team play are just wonderful.

Despite the talent we already posses up front, a prolific goalscorer like Martinez will make us one of the deadliest attacks in the world and might make the Gunners title contenders again. With the creative talents of Cazorla, Ozil and Sanchez around him, his signing might just be the last thing we need to make this side world class.

He is definitely on the move and it remains to be seen whether Wenger can take that one last step in taking Arsenal back to those glory days where we truly deserve to be.

Do we need Martinez?
