Arsenal express interest in signing Gareth Bale, Manchester United also in the hunt

There a variety of rumours in the World of football. Rumours based on intuition, rumours based on fact. Then there’s the whispers and hearsay route or the speculative punt, based on wishful thinking.

Just when I thought I had all bases covered, there’s a new addition to the list, the laughable to the point of exploding rumour.

According to the Express, Arsenal are considering a bid for the Welsh international, Gareth Bale and the North London club have reportedly contacted the attacker’s agent and expressed their interest. PSG and Manchester United are the other interested parties.

I can now reveal exclusively, that it took me a full ten minutes to stop laughing and to wipe away the tears of incredulity.

Arsenal, are the hated rivals of his former club Spurs. A club that has apparently has only £50 million to spend and with that in mind, they want to buy a player who will cost in excess of £100 million.

Yes, exactly, it’s not probable or possible and although Bale is an excellent player, Arsenal are probably slightly shy about signing yet another football celebrity, superstar, having been bitten by Alexis Sanchez.

There are possibly only a handful of clubs that could attract Bale and realistically afford his services. Arsenal have only just grudgingly changed their pay structure for the likes of Mesut Ozil and I doubt they will stretch to the weekly wage of the former Tottenham star, which could probably buy a small island in the South Pacific.

It is however an amusing notion and one that I will remember for as long as it takes me to eat my supper and boil the kettle. Bale may be heading to a new destination but I doubt it will be to the red side of north London
