Arsenal enter talks with Spanish giants to sign midfielder for £20m

Arsenal are reportedly close to securing their first signing of the winter transfer window after opening discussions with Barcelona regarding Denis Suarez.

The Spaniard has not enjoyed a fruitful spell with the Blaugrana this term where he has failed to make a single league start while managing just two appearances from the bench.

As such, he has been widely fancied to leave the Camp Nou during the current month and it appears that the Gunners are favourites to prise him away from the Catalan giants.

According to The Guardian, the north London side are said to have already open discussions with Barcelona regarding their outcast and there is a willingness from both parties to push through a £20m in the near future.

Suarez has previously featured under Unai Emery for one season at Sevilla between 2014 and 2015 and during that period, he showed his versatility of featuring in either the midfield or wider attacking positions.

The Spaniard has pretty much continued with the trend at Villareal and Barcelona thereafter and the same could hold him good at Arsenal, where there remains the need for added reinforcement out wide with Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Danny Welbeck sidelined with injuries.

Meanwhile, the signing of Suarez should pretty much end Aaron Ramsey’s prospects of signing a new deal with the Gunners, though there has been little hope for the same since the breakdown in contract talks in September.

The Wales international has already been confirmed as a transfer target for Juventus by their sporting director but his move may only be finalised when the Gunners contract expires at the end of the season.
