It is not a surprise to know that the Gunners have become active in the transfer market. There are a lot of players being linked with the club but as we all know, not every rumor is to be believed.
But one link seems to be gathering steam at the moment and that is the one linking Arsenal with midfielder Denis Suarez who plays for Barcelona.
According to respected Italian publication Di Marzio, the Gunners are closing in on a move for the Spaniard and a deal is likely to materialise this month.
The 25-year-old would cost the Gunners cost around £20m(as per Guardian) to get from Barcelona. Suarez can play both on the wings as well as a central midfielder. He has the type of profile that will suit Arsenal very well.
He has also worked under Arsenal manager Unai Emery already when he was on loan at Sevilla. Under the Gunners boss, Suarez ended up winning the Europa League in the 2014/15 season.
This familiarity is surely a reason as to why the team is looking at a player like him. Having rejoined Barcelona in the summer of 2016, Suarez hasn’t really been able to play as often as he would have liked.
A big reason for this is the players that are ahead of him in the pecking order. But this should not be an indication of the player’s quality as he is one talented midfielder.
Suarez is comfortable on the ball and has a quick turn of pace that catches defenders by surprise. He is also good at picking out passes and that allows him to slot in seamlessly anywhere in the midfield.
There doesn’t seem to be a lot of competition for his signature which should give the Gunners some confidence moving forward.
Suarez is someone Emery knows and that means that he is sure to already have a plan set up for him. At 25, he is at the right age to blossom at a big club like the Gunners.
