Arsenal have moved ahead of Liverpool and have reportedly submitted a bid of €43 million- which include appearances and achievements clauses – for Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka.
The reports, according to German daily newspaper Rheinische post, spoke of imminent agreements between the two clubs, which may see the player completing his dream move to the Premier League.
The 23-year-old had recently stated that a bid is yet to be made despite the reports linking him with a move to the North London club. But considering the source of this latest news – the Rheinische, based in the same region as the German club, is said to be privy to happening in and around Borussia Monchengladbach- Arsenal may have moved a step closer to signing the Swiss.
Arsene Wenger is making frantic efforts to strengthen the squad, with the midfield, identified as the spine between the attack and the defence, requiring special attention and the Frenchman is keen on sealing Xhaka’s deal before EURO 2016.
Midfield trio of Mikel Arteta, Mathieu Flamini and Tomas Rosicky are all departing at the end of the season, leaving Arsenal with Aaron Ramsey, Mohammed Elneny, Jack Wilshere, Santi Cazorla and Francis Coquelin. Wilshere, Ramsey and Cazorla are injury-prone while Coquelin is yet to convince of being capable of the role at the centre, which means Elneny remains arguably the most fit player in that position.
The Egyptian was voted Arsenal Player of the Month for April, winning it for the second consecutive month. The addition of Xhaka will bring the depth and quality found wanting in the Gunners midfield. The defensive midfielder is a good passer, has the ability to hold the ball and make tackles.
The fans will be delighted to see him in the colours of Arsenal next season, as we prepare to make bold statements in all competitions. German Journalist, Raphael Honigstein as twitted from his Twitter, said that the Gunners in a little while will get to the final stage of signing Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka.
It is reported that Xhaka worth the sum of €50 million but if the said amount is converted to pounds, it will be at £39.4 million. Xhaka has been linked with a move to Arsenal since the start of February as SportBild was the first to publish the news.
Has tweeted by the German Journalist, Raphael Honigstein on his twitter account, he tweeted as follows;
A change of tack from Wenger? After having earlier offer rebuffed, he's come back to pay full whack for Xhaka. (€50m, including add-ons)
