Oxlade-Chamberlain won’t sign new Arsenal contract

England international Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is unlikely to sign a new Arsenal contract anytime soon as he looks to progress further in his career at a Premier League rival.

The 23-year-old has already snubbed a contract offer worth £100,000 a week, and according to The Mirror, the decision has nothing to do with the money offered.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has largely been a bit-part player at the north London giants, and he is said to want assurances of regular playing time first before considering a deal.

As a result, the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea are keeping tabs on his situation as development is his main concern as he approaches the prime of his career.

The Ox managed 45 appearances across all competitions under Arsene Wenger last term, but only 27 of them were starts as he struggled with minor niggles through the campaign.

He initially struggled to find himself a position in the Gunners frontline, and he was later on pushed into a central midfield role before switching to right wing-back in the backend of the season.

Wenger has utilised Aaron Ramsey and Granit Xhaka as his preferred midfield partnership, and Oxlade-Chamberlain knows that he could struggle for playing time in a World Cup year.

Arsenal have so far struggled to offload some of their fringe players including Mathieu Debuchy, Carl Jenkinson, Joel Campbell and Kieran Gibbs, and Wenger will be desperate to find a solution prior to the new campaign.

AS Monaco’s Thomas Lemar remains a prime candidate to bolster the Gunners’ attack, but a deal could be dependent on how much the club recoup from the sale of their existing players.
