Arsenal 2014 year in review

We are ready to welcome the New Year in a couple of hours, so lets take a look how the Gunners fared in the year that has gone by.

JANUARY

The Gunners were top of the League going into 2014 and continued their their charge with successive wins. We also progressed further in the FA Cup, but injuries to Ramsey and Walcott was a big setback. We were linked with a big money move for Julian Draxler but had to settle for Kim Kallstrom on loan.

FEBRUARY

We faced a humiliating 5-1 defeat at the hands of Liverpool and were virtually out of the Champions League after their 2-0 loss to Bayern Munich at home. However we progressed further in the Cup by beating Liverpool just one week after their thrashing at the hands of the Anfield club.

MARCH

This is the time when our title dreams ended after we went without a win in 3 League games including the 6-0 thrashing at the hands of Chelsea. However our Cup run continued with a 4-1 win against Everton which took us to the Semis.

APRIL

We started the month with a loss to Everton, but responded well with 3 back to back wins in the League. We marched into the finals of the FA Cup after scrapping past Wigan by virtue of penalties.

MAY

We held on to the fourth position and finally ended our long standing trophy drought, as we came back from 2 goals down to beat Hull City to lift the FA Cup. Ramsey who was our player of the season, fittingly scored the winner late in extra time.

JUNE

Nothing much except for some new players getting linked, but we had the World Cup to keep the footballing season going.

JULY

It was transfer mania all over as the summer transfer window began. We signed Sanchez, Chambers, Debuchy and Ospina, but the fans suffered a big shock as Fabregas signed for Chelsea and Sagna joined Manchester City.

AUGUST

The season began the season on a bright note by beating Manchester City 2-0 to bag the Community Shield. We secured the Champions League qualification and also came back 2 goals down to draw against Everton, making it an unbeaten start for the Gunners. We also signed Welbeck on deadline day but sold Vermaelen to Barca.

SEPTEMBER

We lost Debuchy to injury and were beaten by Dortmund in the Champions League, but continued our unbeaten in the League. However we were knocked out the Capital One Cup after the defeat to Southampton.

OCTOBER

The Gunners encountered their first defeat of the season at the hands of Chelsea and followed that with a draw against Hull City. Ozil was ruled out for three months with injury, but ended the month on a high with a late win against Andrelecht.

NOVEMBER

It was a busy month for Arsenal and fitness issues took its toll as Koscielny suffered a calf injury. The Gunners threw away a 3 goal lead at Anderlecht and then lost 2 successive League games against Swansea and Manchester United. However we ended the month with wins against Dortmund and West Brom. Sanchez continued to sparkle but Wilshere suffered another injury.

DECEMBER

We started the month by wrapping up the qualification for the round of 16 after beating Galatasaray 4-1. However we flattered to a 3-2 defeat to Stoke and then followed it up with a victory against Newcastle and a 2-2 draw at Liverpool.

Since then we have 2 in a row with 2-1 victories against QPR and West Ham United and are now level on points with Southampton, whom we face tomorrow and a win will put us back into the top four. Nice way to start the New Year isn’t it?

We wish all the Gunners fans a Happy New Year. What was your favorite moment of the year?
